Weghorst swapped Wolfsburg for Burnley in January 2022 for £12m ($15.8m) but he was unable to keep them in the Premier League as they finished the 2021-22 season in 18th. The 32-year-old has since had loan spells at Besiktas, Manchester United, and Hoffenheim but now the big forward looks set to head back to his native country in a permanent deal.

WHAT WOUT WEGHORST SAID

The 6ft 6in forward recently told about his future goals, and potentially hinted at an Ajax transfer.

"For me, the total package has to be right, we are having our fourth child and we have travelled a lot as a family in recent years. Ajax is the biggest club in the Netherlands, that's all I need to say," he said.

The report adds Weghorst is likely to be confirmed as an Ajax player in the coming days and that may mean fellow striker Chuba Akpom will exit the Amsterdam outfit. If nobody comes in for the 28-year-old, he may stay until January, however.
